Mangaluru: Alva’s Pragathi job fair provides on-the-spot offers to 2,416 candidates

Mangaluru, Aug 19: As many as 2,416 candidates received on-the-spot job offers at the 16th edition of ‘Alva’s Pragathi’, a job fair organised by the Alva’s Education Foundation. Another 6,183 candidates were shortlisted for the next stage of recruitment, said Vivek Alva, managing trustee of Alva’s Education Foundation.

Speaking at a press conference at the Mangaluru Press Club on Wednesday, Vivek Alva said that 15,539 candidates participated in the job fair, which witnessed the participation of 332 companies from various sectors.

The manufacturing sector recorded significant recruitment, with 75 companies participating and 924 candidates being shortlisted, of whom 523 were selected. Tata Electronics Systems selected 216 candidates, most of them women. H L Mando selected 99 engineering graduates from EEE, ECE and mechanical engineering streams for jobs in Chennai. Toyota Kirloskar Motor shortlisted a chartered accountant candidate, while Exicom Tele-Systems Ltd selected 30 women candidates.

In the IT and ITES sector, 34 companies participated, with 1,301 candidates shortlisted and 96 receiving job offers on the spot. Prothak Solutions selected 39 candidates for employment in Chennai, while Elogixa offered a job in Congo, Africa, to one candidate.

In the banking, financial services and insurance sector, 913 candidates were shortlisted and 211 received on-the-spot offers. Multinational company EXL Services recruited 38 candidates for positions in human resources, accounts receivable and accounts payable.

In the pharmaceutical sector, companies including Eurofins, R L Fine Chem, Solara Active Pharma Sciences, Medorganic India, Sami Nutraceuticals, Vasudha Life Sciences, Biocon and Group Pharmaceuticals shortlisted 159 candidates and selected 40.

The healthcare sector also witnessed strong recruitment, with Bethany Hospital, Mumbai, selecting 103 candidates. Scenic Summit Resort recruited graduates in naturopathy for wellness therapist positions.

In the international employment segment, GBMT Sectoral Steel Manufacturing Industries selected nine ITI, diploma and degree holders for job opportunities in the UAE. Expertise contracting shortlisted 117 candidates and selected 13 for projects in Saudi Arabia and Adani Mundra in Gujarat. GoPWD selected two candidates with disabilities.

Vivek Alva said the foundation plans to establish taluk-level units to maintain continuous contact with candidates across districts and taluks, understand their employment requirements and provide suitable opportunities. Orientation programmes are already being conducted through Alva’s Pragathi to create awareness among candidates about employment opportunities.

He added that such orientation programmes would be conducted at the taluk level in various districts four to five months before the next job fair, with the support of Nudisiri coordinators.

The results of 301 companies that participated in the job fair have been published on the Alva’s Pragathi website. Results from the remaining companies will be published as information is received from the respective recruitment agencies. Candidates who registered on the spot, particularly those with SSLC, PUC and ITI qualifications, will be informed about their recruitment status directly through phone calls and SMS by the Alva’s team.

Alva’s (Autonomous) College principal Dr Kurian, Alva’s Pragathi-2026 manufacturing sector head Dr Kumaraswamy, placement department Ranjitha Acharya, head of Alva’s journalism department Prasad Shetty and public relations officer of Alva’s Institute of Engineering and Technology Disha Shetty were present at the press conference.
