Udupi, Aug 20: A huge crater has developed in the middle of the Ambagilu–Kalsanka main road at Gundibail within Udupi City Municipal Council limits, disrupting vehicular movement and posing a serious threat to road users.
Following heavy rain on August 19, residents heard a loud sound in the evening and rushed to the spot. They were shocked to find that a large portion of the road had suddenly collapsed, leaving a deep pit resembling a well in the middle of the road, near the road divider.

Residents have expressed concern that if the situation is not addressed immediately, the road divider could also collapse. They suspect that the cave-in may have occurred near a municipal sewerage manhole due to improper sewerage-related work.
Foreseeing the danger, local residents have temporarily closed one side of the Ambagilu–Kalsanka road at Gundibail to prevent accidents.
Udupi City Municipal Council authorities inspected the site on Thursday morning, and necessary work is being carried out.
