Milagres College of Nursing raises organ donation awareness among PUC students

Mangaluru, Aug 21: Milagres College of Nursing observed World Organ Donation Day at Sarojini Madhusudhan Kushe PU College, Mangalore, with the aim of creating awareness among students about the importance of organ donation and its role in saving lives. The programme was organised under the theme 'Hope begins with the one thoughtful decision'.

The programme commenced with a prayer song, followed by the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the dignitaries, symbolising knowledge, hope and enlightenment. Anshel served as the master of ceremonies and coordinated the programme, while Anuska delivered the welcome address.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Diana Lobo, principal, Milagres College of Nursing, highlighted the importance of organ donation and encouraged students to spread awareness about this noble cause of giving the gift of life. This was followed by a special song presented by the students, which highlighted the significance of organ donation and inspired the audience to contribute towards saving lives.

The programme featured an informative session by Vishwanatha Gowda, HIC officer-cum-transplant coordinator, who explained the significance and process of organ donation and addressed common misconceptions surrounding organ transplantation. His insightful session encouraged students to view organ donation as a meaningful contribution towards saving and transforming lives.

A poster competition on the theme of organ donation was also organised for the PUC students to encourage creativity and promote awareness about the importance of organ donation. The students participated enthusiastically and presented meaningful posters conveying the message of giving the gift of life. The winners were recognised and awarded cash prizes for their outstanding and creative contributions.

Approximately 150 students participated in the programme and benefited from the awareness session and various activities. The programme helped the students gain a better understanding of organ donation, its importance, and the positive impact it can have on individuals and families. It also motivated them to spread awareness about organ donation within their families and communities.

The programme concluded with the National Anthem, marking a respectful end to the event. Overall, the programme successfully created awareness among the students and reinforced the message that one thoughtful decision can bring hope and a new lease of life to another person.
