Coventry, Aug 21: Premier League club Coventry City have signed experienced goalkeeper Dan Bentley from Wolverhampton Wanderers on a two-year contract, the club announced on Friday.

The 33-year-old began his professional career with Southend United and was part of the side that secured promotion from League Two in 2015. His performances that season earned him the club’s Player of the Year award and a place in the PFA League Two Team of the Year.

Bentley made 160 appearances for Southend before moving to Championship side Brentford in 2016. After three seasons with the club, he joined Bristol City, where he was named the club’s Player of the Year for the 2020-21 campaign.

In January 2023, Bentley moved to Wolves and subsequently made his Premier League debut against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The goalkeeper is now looking forward to beginning a new chapter with Coventry City and believes the club is moving in a positive direction.

“Coventry City is a fantastic club, and I'm really happy to get the deal over the line,” Bentley said after completing his move.

“It feels like a place that's developing and, off the back of a fantastic season last year, there's a really good feel around the place. It's really positive, and there's an obvious excitement to go into a new season with the aim of being as successful as possible,” he added.

Bentley said he hopes to contribute his experience and leadership to the squad.

“I'll bring a lot of experience; I'm a senior player with good leadership qualities and someone who has really high standards,” he said.

“Of course, I want to make my mark on the pitch as well. There's a really good goalkeeping group here, so I want to complement that group, and when I get my opportunity, it's down to me to take it,” Bentley added.

“I want to help the club get results in the Premier League and see how far we can take it,” he said.

Bentley’s arrival adds further experience to Coventry City’s squad as the club prepares for the new Premier League season.
