Mangaluru: Youth drowns while trying to retrieve football from river at Kasaba Bengre

Mangaluru, Aug 23: A 25-year-old youth drowned after entering a river to retrieve a football that had accidentally fallen into the water while children were playing near the ferry point at Kasaba Bengre here on Sunday, August 23.

The deceased has been identified as Mohammed Sanaulla (25).

The incident occurred near the Kasaba Bengre ferry point when a group of young children were playing football. The ball accidentally fell into the river flowing alongside the area, and the children struggled to retrieve it.

Sanaulla stepped into the river to help the children and retrieve the ball. However, his foot reportedly became stuck in the muddy riverbank, preventing him from getting back up immediately. He was then pulled into the deeper waters and drowned.

The children and local residents, who witnessed the incident, immediately rushed into the water, pulled Sanavulla out and administered first aid before taking him to a hospital.

However, doctors declared him dead on arrival, the report said.
