Mangaluru, Aug 24: YenTech, the technical club of Yenepoya School of Engineering & Technology (YSET), successfully organised PromptWars x YenTech – AI prompt engineering hackathon, an intensive hands-on event focused on artificial intelligence, prompt engineering, innovation and rapid prototyping. The event was conducted with the support and association of Hack2Skill, Google for Developers and NIAT (NxtWave), along with Yenepoya School of Engineering & Technology.
Held at Yenepoya School of Engineering & Technology, the hackathon provided students with an opportunity to explore emerging AI technologies and transform their ideas into functional prototypes within a limited timeframe. The event was designed to move students beyond theoretical understanding and encourage the practical application of AI and prompt engineering.
The hackathon aimed to introduce students to practical applications of artificial intelligence and prompt engineering while fostering creative problem-solving, innovation, rapid prototyping, collaboration and technical presentation skills. Participants were also encouraged to experiment with modern AI development tools and develop functional AI-powered solutions.
The programme commenced with participant registration and an introductory session, followed by the announcement of the hackathon challenge. Participants worked individually or in teams to understand the challenge, conceptualise solutions and build functional prototypes within the stipulated timeframe. The completed projects were submitted through the Hack2Skill platform for evaluation.
The projects were evaluated on key parameters including code quality, security, efficiency, testing, accessibility and alignment with the problem statement. This evaluation framework encouraged participants to focus not merely on creating working prototypes but also on developing solutions that were robust, efficient, accessible and relevant to the given challenge.
The hackathon witnessed enthusiastic participation, with more than 90 registrations, over 70 participants in attendance and more than 70 project submissions. The event gave students practical exposure to AI-based development and prompt engineering, enabling them to build AI-powered prototypes, use AI tools effectively, convert ideas into functional solutions, work under time constraints, and present and demonstrate their projects.
Following the final evaluation and leaderboard assessment, Rinu Manoj emerged as the winner, while Shaheem Niyaz secured the first runner-up position and Muhammad Jawad MR was adjudged the second runner-up.
