Mangaluru: Rosario Cathedral hosts 'Pausa Gammat 2026'

Mangaluru, Aug 24: Rosario Cathedral, Mangaluru, in association with all the wards, organised ‘Pausa Gammat 2026’, a traditional monsoon food fest and entertainment program on Sunday, August 23, at the Rosario Cultural Hall.

Pausa Gammat, inspired by the rich monsoon traditions of coastal Karnataka, was a vibrant celebration of the region’s food, culture and way of life. The event provided a platform to showcase traditional recipes, customs and cultural practices while bringing the parish community together in a spirit of joy and fellowship.

The programme began with a lively traditional procession, with participants dressed in colourful traditional attire and carrying baskets of seasonal produce, vegetables and other items associated with rural and coastal life. The procession recreated the charm of traditional village life and added a strong cultural flavour to the celebrations.

The event was uniquely inaugurated by Fr Valerian D’Souza, parish priest of Rosario Cathedral, through a traditional rice-pounding presentation depicting the agricultural and harvest traditions of the coastal region. Fr. Valerian Fernandes, Fr. Pradeep Rodrigues, Cyril Rosario, vice president, Ida Furtado, secretary, and Aldrin Vaz, Pastoral Commissions Coordinator, were present on the occasion.

The celebrations featured an array of traditional monsoon delicacies prepared by the various wards, offering parishioners an opportunity to savour the rich and diverse flavours of coastal cuisine. The event also featured colourful cultural performances, adding to the festive atmosphere and providing an opportunity for parishioners of different age groups to showcase their talents.

The traditional procession was led by Stevan Fernandes & Melwyn Sequeira and was compered by Vinay Serrao. The cultural programme was compered by by Michelle D’Souza and Winola D’Souza.

The celebrations concluded with an exciting game of Housie Housie, with Vivela Serrao winning the full house prize of Rs 10,000.
