Mangaluru/Udupi, Aug 24: The Government of Karnataka has advanced the Eid Milad public holiday in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts to August 25 instead of August 26, 2026.

The State Government had earlier declared August 26 as a general public holiday across Karnataka on the occasion of Eid Milad. However, based on requests from the Deputy Commissioners of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, the Government has directed that the holiday be observed on August 25 in the two districts, considering the local circumstances.

A strong demand had earlier been made by Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister U T Khader to advance the holiday by a day. The demand came amid representations seeking that the Eid Milad holiday be changed from August 26 to August 25 in the two coastal districts.

The additional secretary of the Karnataka Government has now directed the deputy commissioners of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts to take necessary action to observe August 25 as the Eid Milad holiday in their respective districts.

The Government order, issued by the secretary, Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms, refers to letters submitted by the deputy commissioners of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on August 20 seeking the change in the holiday date.

The order states that the deputy commissioners may take a decision at their respective levels, in accordance with the rules and considering the local situation, to declare August 25 instead of August 26 as the general public holiday for Eid Milad.

The decision means that government offices and other institutions covered by the public holiday notification in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada will observe the Eid Milad holiday on August 25 instead of August 26.
