Mangaluru, Aug 24: The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Yenepoya School of Engineering & Technology (YSET), Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), organised a one-day hands-on workshop on “Large Language Models in Practice: Prompt Engineering, RAG and AI Agents” at the YSET campus, Yenepoya Complex, Mangaluru.

The workshop was inaugurated by Dr R G D’Souza, dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), in the presence of Dr Prabhakara B K, professor and head, Department of Computer Science and Engineering. The programme was coordinated by Dr Mohammed Sidheeque, associate professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, YSET.

The workshop was conducted from 10 am to 4:30 pm, with Dr. Dinesh Naik, assistant professor (Grade I), Department of Information Technology, National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal, serving as the resource person. The programme focused on emerging developments in Large Language Models (LLMs) and provided participants with practical exposure to Prompt Engineering, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and AI Agents.

The hands-on sessions were designed to provide participants with an understanding of how modern Generative AI systems can be effectively prompted, connected with external knowledge sources, and utilised to develop intelligent AI-powered applications. Through practical activities and real-world examples, participants gained insights into the application of LLM technologies in academic, research and industry contexts.

YSET, a constituent unit of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), focuses on interdisciplinary education, research and technology-oriented learning, with an emphasis on developing creative, innovative and analytical skills among students.

The workshop concluded with an emphasis on the growing importance of Generative AI, LLMs and agentic AI in academia, research and industry, encouraging participants to explore these technologies for innovative and real-world problem solving.
