Udupi: ‘Jagadodayana Janmashtami Sambrama’ celebrations to feature grand Krishna Leelotsava

Udupi, Aug 25: A series of religious, cultural and socially oriented programmes will be organised under the theme ‘Jagadodayana Janmashtami Sambrama’ in connection with Sri Krishna Janmashtami, Paryaya Sri Shirooru Math Swamiji Sri Vedavardhana Teertha Sripada said.

Addressing a press conference at Shirooru Math on August 25, the Swamiji said the celebrations would bring together devotion, traditional art forms, cultural performances and community-oriented activities.

As part of the celebrations, special daily decorations are being offered to Lord Krishna under the theme ‘Dashavatara and Krishna Leela’, reflecting the deity’s various incarnations and episodes from Krishna’s life.

The Krishna Janmashtami celebrations will be held on September 4 and 5. On September 4, arghya will be offered to Lord Krishna at 12.12 am. The following day, September 5, will feature Mahapooja and annasantarpane (mass feeding).

A variety of cultural programmes and competitions will be held at the Rajangana, including a Huli Vesha (tiger dance) competition and other events. At 3.30 pm on September 5, a procession of the idol of Lord Krishna on a golden chariot will be held.

A special Mallayuddha (traditional wrestling) demonstration by invited wrestling experts will be organized on a specially created platform on the occasion. The celebrations will culminate with the traditional Vittalapindi–Sri Krishna Leelotsava.

The ‘Jagadodaya’s Janmashtami’ celebrations will conclude on September 6 with a valedictory programme and distribution of prizes.

As per the guidance received through Ashtamangala Prashne, Koti Tulasi Archane, involving the offering of one crore Tulasi leaves to Lord Krishna, will also be undertaken as part of the celebrations.

During the Janmashtami festivities, cultural programmes featuring internationally acclaimed artists have been organised. A special two-day Huli Vesha competition will also be held as part of the Ashtami Vittalapindi festival.

Special cultural programmes have also been arranged for children.

For the convenience of devotees visiting the celebrations, a new toilet facility and footwear stand have been constructed on the premises.

The month-long celebrations are expected to bring together religious devotion, traditional art forms, cultural performances and community-oriented activities, adding to the festive atmosphere in Udupi.
