Nagpur, Aug 26: Unidentified assailants opened fire at the residence of Congress corporator Shubham Motghare in the Wathoda area of Nagpur late Tuesday night, triggering panic in the locality.

The incident took place around 12.30 am when two unidentified men allegedly arrived on a moped and fired at Motghare's house before fleeing the spot. No one was injured, but window panes of the house were shattered in the firing.

Motghare said he was standing on the balcony when the firing took place. His five-year-old daughter was also standing near the doorway at the time. Both escaped unharmed.

According to Motghare, the assailants arrived at high speed, opened fire at the house and immediately fled. CCTV footage from the residence is being examined by the police to identify the attackers.

The incident has raised fresh concerns over the safety and security of public representatives in Nagpur. Police have launched an investigation and are searching for the two unidentified assailants.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear. Police are examining the circumstances surrounding the firing and are working to establish whether the attack was targeted and what may have prompted it.

Motghare is a Congress corporator from Nagpur Municipal Corporation's Ward 26. He won the Ward 26-A seat in the 2026 municipal elections with 15,302 votes, according to election records.

The police are expected to examine the CCTV footage, identify the motorcycle and its occupants and establish their movements before and after the incident as part of the probe.

No arrests have been reported so far, and further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
