Mangaluru, Aug 26: Acting on a customer's complaint about finding a cockroach in the sambar, the district food safety designated officer Dr Praveen Kumar conducted a surprise raid on Vrindavan Hotel at Thokkottu in Ullal.
The official, accompanied by his driver, pulled down the hotel shutters at 1:30 pm and carried out a thorough inspection of the kitchen.

Speaking to the media, Dr Praveen Kumar confirmed that the raid was initiated following the customer's grievance. During the inspection, it was found that the hotel lacked a separate storage room for food items, and ingredients were piled up haphazardly across the kitchen.
The officials had all the improperly stored food items cleared and ensured the kitchen was completely washed and cleaned. The hotel owner was given strict directions to arrange and store food items systematically in separate areas.
Citing the failure to maintain basic hygiene, Dr Praveen Kumar stated that a notice has been issued to the hotel owner, and a case will be filed in the court of the additional deputy commissioner (ADC).
