Mumbai, Aug 26: The Mumbai Coastal Road and Bandra-Worli Sea Link, widely used by motorists to avoid traffic congestion and reach South Mumbai in less time, will now have permanent restrictions on several categories of vehicles.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Mokshada Patil has issued a permanent traffic notification governing the use of the Mumbai Coastal Road and Bandra-Worli Sea Link.

Under the notification, all types of goods vehicles, trucks, trailers, tempos, mixers, tractors and other heavy vehicles have been permanently prohibited from entering the Coastal Road and Bandra-Worli Sea Link.

However, BEST buses, ST and other passenger buses, ambulances, fire brigade vehicles and heavy vehicles belonging to emergency services have been exempted from the restriction.

Two-wheelers of all kinds, including bicycles, mopeds, scooters, scooters with sidecars and motorcycles for persons with disabilities, will also not be permitted on the route. All types of three-wheelers have been prohibited as well.

Vehicles drawn by animals, including tongas, bullock carts and horse carts, along with handcarts, will not be allowed. Pedestrians have also been prohibited from entering the route.

The notification specifies different speed limits depending on the section of the road. The maximum speed limit on straight stretches has been fixed at 80 kmph, while the limit inside tunnels is 60 kmph. At turns and junctions, vehicles must not exceed 40 kmph.

Stopping vehicles on the route is prohibited. Motorists are also not permitted to pick up or drop off passengers along the Coastal Road or Sea Link.

Photography and video shooting on the route have also been prohibited under the traffic notification.

The Dharmaveer Swarajya Rakshak Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Mumbai Coastal Road was connected to the Rajiv Gandhi Sea Link through a connector bridge from August 15, 2025.

The southern and northern carriageways between Marine Drive and the Bandra toll plaza have been opened for passenger vehicles. All carriageways, bridges, underpasses and tunnels on the Coastal Road and Sea Link have been available for passenger traffic round the clock since midnight on August 15, 2025.

The latest notification consolidates the traffic restrictions that were previously issued through a series of temporary notifications. Those earlier temporary orders have now been cancelled and replaced by a single final notification.

The move is aimed at making traffic regulation more streamlined, ensuring discipline on the high-speed corridor and clearly defining vehicle and speed restrictions for motorists using the Coastal Road and Bandra-Worli Sea Link.
