Kundapur, Aug 26: A 67-year-old pedestrian lost his life after a speeding car knocked him down while he was standing by the highway in Kota on Monday night.
The deceased has been identified as Manju Poojary (67), a resident of Giliyaru. The accident occurred on National Highway 66 near Gobbarabettu Bobbaryakatte in Kota.
According to sources, Manju was waiting on the roadside to cross over to Giliyaru when a car travelling from Udupi towards Kundapur, allegedly driven recklessly and at a high speed, rammed into him.

The impact of the collision tossed Manju onto the road, resulting in severe injuries to his head and legs. Jeevan Mitra Nagaraj Puthran, along with local residents, immediately rushed him to the Brahmavar government hospital in a toll ambulance. However, doctors who examined him declared him brought dead.
Manju Poojary, who worked in a canteen, is survived by his wife, a son, and a daughter.
A case has been registered at the Kota police station in connection with the accident, and further investigation is underway.
