Kundapur, Aug 27: A lorry driver sustained serious injuries after two lorries collided near Kashi Math Cross at Hemmady on the national highway on Tuesday night.

The injured driver has been identified as 54-year-old Laxman Muralidhar Wagmode from Maharashtra. He was transporting boxes of cooking oil packets from Mangaluru to Bidar when the accident occurred. The lorry cleaner, Dayanand, suffered minor injuries.

According to reports, road diversion arrangements had been made near Mullikatte close to Hemmady in connection with bridge construction work. Barricades had been placed and traffic diverted to the right side of the road. As the lorry ahead slowed down, the vehicle following it reportedly rammed into it due to the driver's negligence.

Laxman suffered serious head injuries and injuries to other parts of his body. He was initially given treatment at a private hospital in Kundapur and later shifted to a hospital in Manipal for further treatment. His condition is said to be critical.

Dayanand sustained injuries to his hands, legs and other parts of the body.

Kundapur Traffic Police PSI Anoop Nayak and personnel visited the spot and took steps to restore smooth traffic movement on the highway.

A case has been registered at the Kundapur Traffic Police Station.
