Mangalore: Coast Guard Conducts Special Exercise to Battle Sea Pollution

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (NM)

Mangalore, Mar 27: Regional headquarters of Indian Coast Guard with the cooperation  of oil handling agencies organized a 'pollution response exercise' off the New Mangalore Port here on Tuesday March 27.

The exercise was conducted to test and improve the ability of the coast guard to prevent and handle any spills, slick, and related problems.

Moreover, the personnel were trained to avoid further damage to the sea water and to preserve the ecology. Spraying water on a ship was also a part of the exercise, conducted to prepare coast guards in case of an emergency.

The coast guard used its specialized pollution response vessel, the Indian Coast Guard ship 'Samudra Prahari’ for the exercise.

The vessel is the only one of its kind in the entire Asian region. It is fully capable of combating oil spill at sea.

Coast Guards, we appreciate your effort to battle sea pollution in Mangalore but it should be done all over India. This sea pollution is depriving fishermen of their livelihood day by day. Also it will afford people who want to swim during their leisure time.

Oil spill, industrial waste to sea are the main pollutant agents which needs to be controlled.Simply exercising by the Coastal Guard will not make any differences.
