Bengaluru, Aug 27: The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is gearing up to bring its entire bus fleet under high-tech surveillance, with plans to install Vehicle Location Tracking Devices (VLTDs) in all buses and establish a dedicated command centre for real-time monitoring.

VLTDs mandated for public service vehicles

The Union government has directed that Vehicle Location Tracking Devices (VLTDs) be installed in all vehicles providing public services. Accordingly, the devices are required not only in private vehicles but also in government vehicles.'

Of KSRTC's 6,063 buses, VLTDs have already been installed in 2,344 buses. The corporation is now taking steps to install the devices in the remaining 3,743 buses.

Real-time tracking, route information

The VLTD system will provide information on the routes being operated by buses, along with other details, making it easier to track their movement.

To collate this information and keep a close watch on the fleet, KSRTC is also moving ahead with plans to establish a dedicated command centre. The tender process for the facility has already been initiated.

Once the command centre becomes operational, KSRTC will be able to access information on its buses in real time, enabling closer monitoring of their movement and improving oversight of bus operations.
