Mangalore, Mar 27:
The 4th 'Chavadi Koota' was held at Tulu Sahitya Academy Hall here on Tuesday March 27.

'Chavadi Sanmana' was conferred on R K Mangalore, senior theatre personality, while Vijaykumar Kodialbail, Tulu drama artist and cinema director, was specially felicitated on the occasion.

In his keynote address Umanath Kotian, president, Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy, said that his days as president of the Academy had been fruitful so far, ever since he took up the post three months ago. Speaking further, he said that the art of drama tells one how the society should be and moulds it.

Accepting the felicitation, R K Mangalore said that he has derived satisfaction from drama. “Drama is nothing but a mirror to the society. The theme of any drama should be such that it should remain in the minds of the people for a long time. Hype of dance and music in movies these days is not a good development,” he said. He called upon story writers to give importance to the ingredient of 'morality' in drama.

In his response, Vijaykumar Kodialbail said that there has been an increase in number of Tulu dramas and movies of late, which is a good trend. “Next month, there are two Tulu movies coming up and shootings of 3-4 movies are going on. A fair amount of Tulu dramas are also being staged,” he said, and added that work on building Tulu Kala Bhavana should take place as soon as possible.

He also stressed that in keeping with the desire of Dharmadhikari Dr Veerendra Heggade and Umanath Kotian, Tulu should be included in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution. He also said that his next upcoming Tulu drama is 'Tuluve'.

The programme was telecast live on 'Namma Kudla' channel. Senior theatre personalities R K Ullal, K V Shetty Kadri, Sanjiva S Adyar, Jagadeesh Kenchanakere, Rohini Jagaram, and Tulu drama artistes union president Kishore D Shetty were the chief guests.

On the occasion, the book 'Mudipu' was released by Umanath Kotian. Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy registrar Chandrahas Rai B welcomed. Manjula Shetty compered.
