Bengaluru, Aug 30: In a major development concerning the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) veterinary officers' recruitment scam, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) raided the KPSC office and took IAS officer Jnanendra Kumar into custody.
Previously, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had conducted raids on the residences of the former KPSC chairman, members, and other associated officials in connection with the case. Now, the CID has apprehended Jnanendra Kumar, who served as the controller of examinations during the veterinary officers' recruitment, following a prolonged two-day interrogation.
A CID Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been rigorously probing allegations of question paper leaks, marks tampering, and other recruitment irregularities that reportedly occurred during his tenure as the KPSC controller of examinations. As part of the ongoing probe, CID officials grilled Jnanendra Kumar for 11 consecutive hours on August 28. He was ultimately taken into custody for allegedly failing to cooperate with the investigating officers.
The CID is now preparing to produce him before the court after a mandatory medical examination and will seek his extended police custody for further questioning.
