Mangaluru, Aug 31: Srinivas Institute of Technology organized a Fresher’s Day and orientation programme for the first-year BE, BArch and BCA students on August 31.
Dr Shrinivasa Mayya D, principal, Srinivas Institute of Technology, welcomed the gathering and introduced the new batch to the rich legacy and achievements of Srinivas University and the Institute in academics, placements and sports. He emphasized the institution’s commitment to making students industry-ready, future-ready and prepared for life. He announced the commencement of the BCA programme from the current academic year and urged students to become innovators and entrepreneurs while upholding discipline and good values.
Prof A Mitra S Rao, trustee member, board of governors, Srinivas University, Mangaluru, urged the students to remain connected to their roots and culture despite belonging to the alpha generation and being increasingly connected to technology and machines. She emphasized that while technological knowledge is essential, the overall development of an individual is of utmost importance.
Trustee member, board of governors, Srinivas University, Mangaluru, Vijayalakshmi R Rao congratulated the students and their parents on making an excellent choice in selecting their course of study. She encouraged the students to develop an entrepreneurial mindset and advised them to always remember and keep their parents happy, emphasizing that the blessings of parents are invaluable. She also advised students to focus on their studies and use mobile phones sparingly. She conveyed her blessings and assured the students that she would pray for their success and well-being.
In his presidential address, Dr A Srinivas Rao, chancellor, Srinivas University, and president, A Shama Rao Foundation, Mangaluru, stated that the University is committed to enhancing the personality of students and moulding them into the best versions of themselves. He assured that the institution would support students in transforming their innovative ideas into reality. He also appealed to parents to remain in constant touch with their children and the faculty members to monitor their academic and overall progress.
Dr Satyanarayana Reddy, vice chancellor, Srinivas University, Mangaluru, warmly welcomed the parents and assured them that their children were in safe and capable hands. He spoke about how the methods and phases of learning have evolved over the years.
He explained a systematic approach to problem-solving—first observing the situation, then thinking and identifying solutions with appropriate support, followed by planning the course of action and working towards a solution. He further emphasized the importance of testing, releasing the solution for review and continuously improving it based on feedback. He encouraged students to focus on their personal growth and wished them success in their future endeavours.
Prof Jayram Thumbe conducted an informative session on ‘Engineering: A success path’, educating students and parents about the engineering curriculum and future opportunities available to engineers. The session highlighted ways in which students could transform their academic learning into a successful and rewarding career.
The programme commenced with an invocation prayer led by Chaitra M and Harshini, fourth-year students. The vote of thanks was proposed by Amitha H, department of physics. The programme was compered by Dr Sumana VS and Prof Rashmi.
