Puttur MLA Ashok Rai urges State Cabinet to declare Tulu as Karnataka’s second additional language

Puttur, Aug 31: MLA Ashok Kumar Rai has submitted a representation to chief minister D K Shivakumar urging the state government to declare Tulu as Karnataka’s second additional language at the upcoming State Cabinet meeting to be held in Mangaluru.

In his representation, Rai pointed out that Andhra Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal have already accorded additional official language status to languages spoken in their respective states.

He urged the chief minister to similarly declare Tulu as an additional language of Karnataka during the Cabinet meeting scheduled to be held in Mangaluru.

Rai said granting Tulu additional language status would recognise the importance of the language and address a long-standing demand of the Tulu-speaking community.
