Auto fares hiked in Dakshina Kannada; minimum fare now Rs 40 for first 1.5 km

Mangaluru, Aug 31: Auto fares in Dakshina Kannada district have been revised, with the minimum fare for the first 1.5 km now fixed at Rs 40. The revised fare will cover a maximum of three passengers.

Under the new fare structure, passengers will have to pay Rs 20 for every kilometre after the first 1.5 km. This rate, too, applies to a maximum of three passengers.

The first 10 minutes of waiting time will be free. Thereafter, a waiting charge of Rs 5 may be levied for every 15 minutes or part thereof.

Passengers can be charged 1.5 times the normal fare only between 10 pm and 5 am.

The revised fares will apply to both auto passengers and drivers. Drivers, however, will not be permitted to collect any amount over and above the prescribed fare.
