Mangaluru, Sep 1: The Minority Fishermen’s Primary Cooperative Society of Mangaluru North Harbour organised a felicitation programme for meritorious students and distributed fire balls to help protect fishing boats from fire accidents.

Speaking at the programme held at the ‘Bahar-e-Noor’ auditorium on Tuesday, former Mangaluru taluk panchayat member Mohammed Mustafa Malar said scholarship beneficiaries should develop the spirit of helping others in their professional lives.

He said the association provides annual scholarships and financial assistance to meritorious students, besides extending support to people suffering from illnesses, fishermen in distress, families in need and kidney patients requiring regular dialysis.

Auditor Prajanya Shetty said the association has been carrying out various social welfare activities and encouraging education to help create responsible citizens.

As many as 80 students who secured the highest marks in the SSLC examination were each awarded a scholarship of Rs 10,000. Fire balls, designed to help protect fishing boats from fire, were also distributed.

Auditor Madhukar Kamath spoke on the occasion. Association president J Mohammed Ishaq presided over the programme.

Vice-president Ahmed Bava Bajal, directors U T Ahmed Sharief, B Ibrahim Khalil, S M Ibrahim, T H Hameed, Mohammed Ashraf, A M K Mohammed Ibrahim, B Mohammed Shali, MA Gafur, S K Ismail, A N R Anwar and chief executive officer D Abdul Latheef were among those present.
