Mangaluru, Sep 1: Yenepoya School of Engineering and Technology (YSET), Yenepoya Deemed to be University, celebrated National Sports Day 2026 with great enthusiasm by organising a series of sporting activities from August 24 to August 29. The celebrations brought together students in a spirit of fitness, teamwork, discipline and healthy competition, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to developing a vibrant sporting culture on campus.
The sporting celebrations culminated in the National Sports Day tournament held on and August 28 to 29 at Yendurance Zone as a part of the nationwide observance of National Sports Day and the objectives of the Fit India Movement. The celebrations commemorated the birth anniversary of legendary Indian hockey player Major Dhyan Chand and were conducted under the theme 'Khelega Bharat, Jeetega Bharat'.





As part of the week long sporting programme, students participated enthusiastically in carrom, chess, badminton, volleyball and throwball, providing opportunities for students with varied sporting interests and abilities to compete and showcase their skills. The concluding two-day tournament on August 28 and 29 witnessed intense competition in badminton, volleyball and throwball. On the first day, knockout rounds were conducted to identify players and teams progressing to the final stages.
Badminton competitions for boys and girls and preliminary throwball matches for girls were conducted during the morning, while the boys’ volleyball knockout rounds commenced in the afternoon. The second day featured the semi-finals and finals, with the sporting action continuing throughout the day. The girls’ badminton semi-finals and finals were completed during the morning, followed by the boys’ badminton round of 8, semi-finals and finals. The boys’ volleyball competition progressed through the round of 16, round of 8, semi-finals and finals, while the girls’ throwball championship match brought the scheduled tournament events to a close.
The National Sports Day celebrations at YSET went beyond competition, emphasising the importance of maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle. The programme provided students with an opportunity to take a break from their academic routines, engage in physical and mental recreation, build camaraderie and experience the values of fair play and mutual respect. The successful conduct of the sporting activities reflects the coordinated efforts of the sports committee and student welfare department of Yenepoya School of Engineering and Technology, along with the enthusiastic participation and support of the student community.
