Mangaluru, Sep 2: The Adyapady-Anthonykatte parish celebrated 'Dabazo' with great joy and enthusiasm at St Antony Church, Anthonykatte, marking the 35th Konkani Manyatha Divas on August 30.

The celebration highlighted the richness of Konkani language, culture and traditions, while bringing together the local community in a spirit of unity and fellowship.

The programme was graced by chief guest Arun Raj Rodrigues, along with parish priest Fr Francis Rodrigues, vice president Rajesh D’Costa, secretary Sujatha D’Souza, Br William Mendith, Sr Philomena Lobo, director of Kripa Sadhana in Bajpe Fr Kevin Lawrence D’Souza, and ICYM Pezar deanery president Venisha Saldanha.

The programme commenced with the hoisting of the Konkani flag by the chief guest, followed by the singing of the Konkani anthem. A special tribute was paid to late Henry D’Souza, the renowned Konkani composer and singer who passed away recently. His valuable contribution to Konkani music and culture was remembered with respect and affection.

Addressing the gathering, chief guest Arun Raj Rodrigues delivered an inspiring message on the importance of preserving, promoting and nurturing the Konkani language and culture. He stressed the need to pass the language and its rich traditions on to future generations.

Fr Francis Rodrigues also shared a meaningful message and expressed his heartfelt appreciation to all the performers and those who contributed to the successful conduct of the celebration.

The colourful and well-coordinated musical programme featured a variety of cultural performances showcasing the talent and enthusiasm of 70-plus artistes. The programme was efficiently compered by Melita Pereira and Wilfred Mathias, who kept the event lively and engaging throughout.

In his concluding remarks, vice president Rajesh D’Costa expressed heartfelt gratitude to the chief guest, parish priest, clergy, religious, performers, organisers, volunteers and all participants for their active participation and wholehearted support in making 'Dabazo' a resounding success.

The celebration concluded with a community dinner served to all attendees, providing an opportunity for participants to come together, share fellowship and strengthen the bonds of unity within the community.

The celebration of 'Dabazo' served as a fitting reminder of the parish community’s commitment to keeping the Konkani language, culture and heritage alive for generations to come.
