Udupi, Sep 3: The Udupi district branch of the Indian Red Cross Society has been placed under an administrator following the expiry of the statutory tenure of its president.
Deputy commissioner Swaroopa T K has appointed Kundapur sub-divisional assistant commissioner (AC) Rashmi S R as administrator until the annual general meeting (AGM) is held and a new president is elected.
The deputy commissioner issued the order on August 18, appointing Rashmi S R to ensure the organisation’s activities continue smoothly.

The present district Red Cross president had been serving since October 5, 2019. At a meeting held on November 11, 2020, a no-confidence motion was moved against the president, following which another member took charge as district president.
However, the present president approached the High Court by filing a writ petition and was reinstated as president following the court’s order. The president’s tenure had ended on October 5, 2022.
AGM could not be held
The organisation had fixed May 13 for its AGM and notices were sent to all members by post. However, notices did not reach four members. After the members submitted complaints to the office, the AGM could not be held.
The fact that one person had continued as president for several years had also led to dissatisfaction among other members, who submitted complaints to the deputy commissioner.
In view of these developments, deputy commissioner Swaroopa T K appointed an administrator to oversee the Udupi district Red Cross until the election process is completed.
