Mangaluru, Sep 3: As part of the extension activity of the department of commerce, St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, a workshop on “Soft Skills for Professional Competency” was organised at Bethany English Medium School, Bajpe, on August 31.

The workshop aimed to sensitise school students to the importance of soft skills and their role in developing professional competence, effective communication and positive interpersonal relationships. This workshop also provided students with practical insights into the skills required to enhance their confidence, communication abilities and overall personality development.

Three final-year B Com students of St Agnes College —Shaun Melric Fernandes, Shamitha Sathish, and Ayesha Zuha — were invited as resource persons to conduct the workshop. Drawing from their academic experiences and exposure to professional environments, the student resource persons engaged the participants through interactive discussions and activities.

The workshop focused on essential soft skills such as effective communication, confidence, teamwork, interpersonal skills, leadership, time management, and professional behaviour. The sessions encouraged the students to actively participate, express their ideas, and understand how these skills can contribute to their personal growth and future career development.

The workshop provided the B Com students with an opportunity to share their knowledge and develop their own communication, presentation, and leadership abilities while interacting with younger learners. The programme concluded with an encouraging and positive response from the participants.

The extension activity successfully fulfilled its objective of empowering students with essential soft skills and creating awareness about their importance in achieving professional competency and future career success.
