Moodbidri, Sep 3: The Moodbidri police have registered a case against three individuals, including a Congress leader and two Sangh Parivar workers, for allegedly engaging in moral policing against college students at a local cafe.

The accused have been identified as Rithil Poojary, who handles social media for the Congress and is a close aide of KPCC general secretary Mithun Rai, along with Sangh Parivar worker Prem Bhandary and former Bajrang Dal convener Sanjay Hegde.

According to the details of the incident, two female and two male students, reportedly belonging to different communities,  from a private college in Moodbidri had gone to a cafe near the bus stand for breakfast. The three accused allegedly barged into the cafe, demanded to know the students' names, hurled abuses, and threatened them.

Fearing further trouble, the intimidated students refused to file a formal complaint. However, upon receiving information, Moodbidri police sub-inspector (PSI) Prathiba rushed to the spot and subsequently registered a suo motu case based on her own complaint. The FIR has been filed under sections 126(2), 352, and 351(2) read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Police sources revealed that four prior cases are already registered against Prem Bhandary and Sanjay Hegde at the Moodbidri police station. Rowdy sheets had previously been opened against the duo, and it is gathered that the bond period associated with their rowdy sheets has currently expired.
