Mangaluru, Sep 4: The School of Engineering, St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru, organised its first national conference, SCOPE 2026 – St Aloysius conference on Perspectives in Engineering, at LFR Hall, LCRI, on September 2. Welcoming the gathering, Dr Glenson Tony, assistant dean, School of Engineering, observed that while the Internet had created a “global village”, Artificial Intelligence was ushering in a “global convergence”, breaking disciplinary boundaries and enabling collaborative solutions to societal challenges.
Dr S Ruban, dean, School of Engineering, outlined the vision of the conference through RCB – Read, Collaborate, Build, urging participants to acquire knowledge, collaborate across disciplines and translate ideas into meaningful outcomes. Guest of honour Dr Inamul Hasan Madar, professor, Yenepoya, Mangaluru, said academic forums such as SCOPE provide an important platform for advancing research and product development. Chief guest Dr Ashita Uppoor, dean, Manipal College of Dental Sciences, emphasised the importance of interdisciplinary research and highlighted the growing role of technology in transforming dentistry and healthcare.
In his presidential address, Dr Chandrashekar Shetty, director, Research and Development Cell, St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), urged young researchers to make research a way of life rather than merely a career option. The conference featured seven thematic tracks — Artificial Intelligence and machine learning; data science and computational technologies; electronics and communication; sustainable engineering and energy; biomedical and healthcare engineering; emerging technologies and industry 4.0; and interdisciplinary engineering and innovation. A total of 55 research papers were presented, with selected papers to be published in Alshodhana journal.
The keynote address by Dr Madar focused on taking research beyond publications by identifying socially relevant problems, developing solutions, protecting innovations through intellectual property and using AI cautiously and responsibly. The conference culminated in a valedictory programme with Dr Ronald Nazareth, registrar, St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), as chief guest. The Best Paper Award winners were honored during the programme. Dr Nazareth called for a stronger culture of research aimed at creating impact, while encouraging researchers to value and enjoy the journey of discovery.
Dr Mohd Siraj B and Dr Praveen D'Souza were the conveners of SCOPE 2026. The conference concluded with a renewed emphasis on reading, collaboration and building solutions that transcend disciplinary boundaries and serve society.
