Puttur, Sep 5: Two police personnel from Puttur Rural police station were allegedly abused and assaulted, besides being obstructed in the discharge of their official duties, while responding to a domestic violence complaint at Mundaje in Padnur village on the night of September 4.
Head constable Madhu and CPC Bhimana Gowda M Biradar were on duty in a Hoysala patrol vehicle when they received the complaint and rushed to Mundaje in Padnur village.
On reaching the spot, a woman told the personnel that her husband had assaulted her. When the police questioned her husband, identified as Naveen, he allegedly lost his temper and attempted to assault his wife again.

When the personnel stepped in to prevent the attack, Naveen, along with his mother and brother, allegedly abused and assaulted the police personnel and obstructed them from carrying out their government duties.
Following the incident, Puttur Town police station registered a case under crime no. 107/2026 under sections 352, 132 and 121(1), read with section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. An investigation is under way.
Naveen is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital. Police said further legal action will be taken after he is discharged.
