Nagpur, Sep 5: A 41-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly beating his wife to death following an argument over serving food and her plans to attend a dance class in Nagpur, Maharashtra, police said.

The accused, identified as Krishnalal, allegedly assaulted his wife Yamini after returning home from work. According to police, he asked her to serve him food, but she refused and told him to serve himself as she wanted to attend a dance class.

The disagreement reportedly escalated into a heated argument and then a physical altercation. Police said Krishnalal severely assaulted Yamini, causing serious injuries to her neck and abdomen. She later succumbed to her injuries.

Senior Inspector Haresh Kalsekar said women residing in the couple’s apartment complex had been conducting dance practice sessions between 10 pm and midnight ahead of the Ganesh festival.

Following Yamini’s death, police initially registered a case of accidental death. However, her family became suspicious about the circumstances surrounding her death and insisted that a post-mortem examination be conducted.

The post-mortem revealed serious injuries on Yamini’s body, prompting police to question and detain her husband. During the investigation, Krishnalal allegedly confessed to killing Yamini, police said.

He was subsequently arrested and a murder case was registered against him. Police are investigating the circumstances leading to the assault and the exact sequence of events.

The couple has two sons, aged 14 and four.

Police Inspector Haresh Kalsekar has previously been quoted in local reports in connection with investigations in Nagpur, although additional independent reports confirming the specific details of this latest case were not available in the search conducted.
