Byndoor, Sep 10: A tragic serial accident occurred near Shiruru in the taluk on Thursday, September 10, resulting in the death of a bike rider. The incident took place while authorities were clearing another crashed vehicle from the highway.

The deceased has been identified as Nagendra Mahale (45), a resident of Shiruru.

According to sources, traffic on the highway had been temporarily halted and barricades were placed by highway maintenance personnel to facilitate the lifting of a goods-laden lorry that had previously met with an accident. During this clearance operation, another lorry, reportedly transporting rubber from Kerala to Maharashtra, came speeding down the slope.

The driver lost control of the speeding vehicle, which rammed into a stationed highway patrol police vehicle before crashing into four motorcycles. Nagendra Mahale, who was on one of the bikes, was killed in the pile-up.

Circle inspector Santosh Kaikini and other police officials immediately visited the spot and initiated an investigation.
