Udupi, Sep 10: Udupi town police have arrested two persons for allegedly producing a forged Aadhaar card before the Udupi district and sessions court while attempting to secure bail for an accused in a criminal case.
According to the complaint filed by Abbas, administrative officer of the Udupi district court, proceedings were underway in special case No 31/2025, arising from Sun police station crime No 03/2025, and criminal miscellaneous No 41/2026. During the bail process of an accused identified as Noman, a person named Farooq allegedly used the Aadhaar card number belonging to Prashanth and forged the name and address of K T Mohammed on the document.
The forged Aadhaar card was allegedly prepared with the intention of impersonating another person and misleading the court. The document was reportedly produced before the court on August 30, 2026, allegedly causing deception to the court as well as to K T Mohammed and Prashanth, the genuine holders of the respective identities and records.
Based on the complaint, Udupi town police registered crime No 110/2026 under sections 319(2), 336(3), 318(4), 229(1) and 340(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, along with relevant provisions of the Aadhaar Act.
The accused have been identified as Umar Farooq of Bantwal and Nishanth Kumar of Mangaluru. Police arrested both accused and produced them before the court. They have been remanded to judicial custody.
Following directions from senior officers, a special team was formed under the guidance of Udupi town police inspector Mahesh Prasad P and led by PSI (Investigation-2) Ratnakar K. The team comprised ASI Lokesh, head constables Santosh and Jagannath Naik, police constables Anand and Anandayya, along with Mallayya Hiremath and Hemanth of Manipal police station and other Udupi town police personnel.
Further investigation is underway.
