Beltangady, Sep 12: A man has been arrested for allegedly trespassing onto agricultural land, caste-abusing a Scheduled Caste woman, issuing death threats and damaging crops and fencing, resulting in an estimated loss of Rs 1.30 lac, within the Venoor police station limits.
According to the complaint, the woman, a resident within the Venoor police station jurisdiction, was working on the agricultural land along with others on September 7 when the accused, identified as Haneef, a resident of Hosangady in Beltangady, allegedly entered the property.

The accused allegedly subjected the woman to caste-based abuse, used obscene language, threatened her with death and behaved inappropriately towards her. He is also accused of damaging agricultural crops and fencing, causing an estimated loss of around Rs 1.30 lac.
The woman lodged a complaint with Venoor police on September 8, following which a case was registered against Haneef in Crime No 63/2026.
The case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Police subsequently arrested the accused and produced him before the court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
Venoor police are investigating the case.
