Mangaluru: St Aloysius to host AICTE-sponsored national seminar in Konkani

Mangaluru, Sep 13: The School of Engineering at St Aloysius (Deemed to be University) will organise a two-day national seminar on 'Integrated Approaches to Energy, Sustainability & Climate Change' on September 17 and 18. Supported by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) under the AICTE-VAANI (Vibrant Advocacy for Advancement and Nurturing of Indian Languages) initiative, this is uniquely the only AICTE-supported seminar in the Konkani language in the entire state.

The inaugural ceremony will take place at the L F Rasquinha Hall in the LCRI block at 10:30 am on Thursday, September 17. Former professor of medicine and secretary of Vishwa Konkani Kendra, Dr Kasturi Mohan Pai, will be the chief guest. The director of the Konkani Institute, Fr Prashanth Madtha SJ, and the founder and managing director of Daijiworld Media, Walter Nandalike, will be the guests of honour. St Aloysius University vice-chancellor Dr Praveen Martis SJ will preside over the programme.

 

The valedictory programme is scheduled for 2 pm on Friday, September 18, at the Sanidhya Hall in the admin block. The principal of Milagres College, Fr Alwyn Serrao, will attend as the chief guest, while the principal of St Philomena College, Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, will be the guest of honour. Finance officer Fr Antony Pais SJ will preside over the concluding ceremony.

The seminar aims to create awareness about sustainable energy systems, climate change challenges, and environmental conservation among students, academicians, and the local community through the medium of Konkani. It will feature technical sessions by distinguished experts including Dr Amit Ashok Vernekar from CSIR-CLRI Chennai, Dr Arun M Isloor from NITK Surathkal, Dr Ranjith Krishna Pai from the union ministry of science and technology, Dr Vinod T Kamath, Dr Namratha Pai K, Dr Nagaraj Kamath, and Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro.

A notable feature of the event is a poster presentation session, which encourages participants to present research and popular science articles in Konkani to make scientific knowledge more accessible to the local community. Abstracts of a maximum of 500 words should be submitted in both English and Konkani to praveen_prakash@staloysius.edu.in by September 10.

Registration for the seminar is free and accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, with physical presence mandatory. No TA/DA will be provided.
