Rio de Janeiro, Sep 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday called for greater resilience within the BRICS grouping, stressing the need to identify emerging challenges in time, remain prepared and take prompt action to address them.

Addressing the opening session on the second day of the BRICS Summit, themed “Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability: Shaping the Future for Inclusive Global Growth,” Modi said the world is witnessing a steady rise in tensions, with pandemics, climate-related disasters and disruptions to supply chains increasingly affecting ordinary people.

He said the interconnected nature of the world means that no crisis remains confined to a single region, making it essential for BRICS countries to strengthen their collective resilience.

“Therefore, we have placed special emphasis on enhancing resilience within the BRICS group. It is equally essential to identify challenges in a timely manner, remain prepared for them, and take immediate action,” Modi said.

He noted that consensus has been reached on establishing a BRICS Integrated Early Warning System for the prevention of and response to infectious diseases.

“Additionally, Early Warning Data Integration Guidelines have been formulated for disaster management,” the Prime Minister said.
