Mangaluru, Sep 13: A KSRTC bus broke down on the Kankanady old road on Saturday afternoon, causing major disruptions to vehicular movement. As a result, vehicles entering the city from Pumpwell had to be diverted through Nanthoor and Shivabagh.
The incident occurred around 12:30 pm on the one-way stretch from Pumpwell towards Kankanady. With the bus completely blocking the path, the traffic police stepped in to route vehicles via Nanthoor.

This sudden diversion led to heavy traffic gridlocks at the Nanthoor junction and the Kadri Shivabagh stretch. Since it was a Saturday, the presence of numerous school vehicles ferrying students home added to the congestion. Left with little choice, several commuters were seen walking from Pumpwell towards Kankanady.
The traffic woes continued into the evening across various parts of the city, exacerbated by the weekend holiday and the ongoing Ganesha Chaturthi shopping rush. Major market areas, including Hampankatta, State Bank, and Lady Goschen roads, witnessed bumper-to-bumper traffic. Similar congestion was reported at Lalbagh, Ambedkar Circle, Bunts Hostel, Kadri, Bejai, and the KSRTC junction.
