Bangalore : Abducted Jeweller Found Murdered

Bangalore, Mar 29 (DHNS) : Nitish Bera, a 36-year-old City-based jeweller, was found murdered a day after he was allegedly kidnapped from near his shop on Avenue Road.

An unclaimed body dumped near the Dobbespet flyover was on Wednesday identified to be that of Bera, the police said.

Bera, from Kolkata, was living with his family at Richmond Town. He owned a shop, BRN Jewellers, at  Avenue road. On Tuesday, his wife Uma called him on his mobile phone when he did not turn up even late in the night. Bera told her that he was stuck in some work and would return home soon.

But realising that he had already left the shop an hour back, Uma panicked and called on his mobile incessantly. All the calls were answered by Bera himself, who tried to pacify her and assured her that nothing was wrong.

Soon, Uma got another call from Bera, who told her that someone would come to the house in a scooterette and she was to give him whatever jewellery and cash there was at the moment. An unidentified person, who covered his face with a helmet, appeared at the door and took away a necklace, two diamond rings and Rs 2,000 in cash.

Almost at the same time, Mithun, a worker at Bera’s shop, also received a similar call from the jeweller instructing him to give whatever gold was in the shop to the man. Although the unidentified scooterette rider arrived at a hotel near the shop, he sped away towards Chickpet. Later, Bera’s mobile was switched off and there were no calls either for ransom from any other phone. The Ashok Nagar police registered a kidnap case on Wednesday and sent out three teams in search of the man.

Later, Bera’s body, whichbore a stab wound on the neck, was found on Wednesday morning near the Dobbespet flyover. A postmortem was conducted at Tumkur District Hospital.
The body will be brought to Bangalore by Thursday, the police said.
