Mangaluru, Sep 14: Milagres College of Nursing, in collaboration with FAME Academy, a Hexatron Healthcare Brand, organized 'PALLINEXUS 2026', a two-day educational and skill-development programme on September 14 and 15, focusing on palliative care and the values of compassion, excellence, and empowerment in nursing practice.
The programme began with a prayer song, invoking God’s blessings for the successful conduct of the two-day programme and for the well-being and learning of all the participants.
A total of 113 participants from Milagres College of Nursing and Athena Institute of Health Sciences took part in the programme. The two-day programme was designed to provide BSc Nursing students with comprehensive learning through expert-led sessions, practical training, clinical procedures, communication skills, and approaches to optimizing patient care.
The programme continued with a warm and heartfelt Welcome Address by Dr Diana Lobo, principal, Milagres College of Nursing. She extended a hearty welcome to the dignitaries, resource persons, faculty members, invited guests, and students. She expressed her gratitude to the management, FAME Academy, resource persons, faculty, and organizing team for their valuable support in making PALLINEXUS 2026 possible.
The programme was graced by the presence of the chief guest, Dr Rohan Chandra R Gatty, hod and professor of Surgical Oncology, Father Muller Medical College, Mangaluru. Dr Gatty shared valuable experiences from his professional journey and highlighted the importance of compassion, excellence, and empowerment in healthcare.
Through personal experiences from his clinical practice, Dr Gatty emphasized that nursing and medical care extend beyond treatment and procedures. He spoke about understanding the emotional needs of patients and families, communicating with empathy, respecting dignity, and being present for patients during difficult moments. His experiences provided the participants with a meaningful perspective on the human side of healthcare and the vital role of compassionate care in palliative settings.
The presidential address was delivered by Fr Ivan Michael Rodrigues, correspondent, Milagres Educational Institutions. In his address, he highlighted the importance of equipping future nurses with strong practical skills and compassionate clinical competence. He also stressed the importance of the spiritual aspect of palliative care, particularly in supporting patients and families during serious illness and end-of-life situations. He reminded the participants that a nurse’s presence, empathy, attentive listening, reassurance, and respect for the spiritual and emotional needs of patients can provide comfort and dignity during some of the most challenging moments of life.
Dr Raghavendra B H, director, FAME Academy and organizing chairperson, highlighted the significance of the two-day programme and the importance of combining academic learning with practical exposure to prepare students to provide competent and compassionate care.
The first day, September 14, focused on the fundamentals of palliative care, effective communication, and nursing management of common symptoms, equipping students with essential knowledge and skills for compassionate patient care.
The second day, September 15, will focus on hands-on nursing procedures and optimization of palliative care, including essential clinical procedures, quality of life, dignity in dying, end-of-life care, ethical decision-making, and support for patients, caregivers, and families.
The programme also featured the valuable presence and contributions of Akash H A, product evangelist, FAME Academy; Rajashekar S, intensive care specialist, ESIC Hospital, Rajajinagar, Bengaluru, and nursing mentor and academic advisor, FAME Academy; Theronica Reena, clinical specialist, FAME Academy; Rahul S Waliker, senior clinical simulation trainer, FAME Academy; and Poppi Barman, clinical simulation instructor, FAME Academy.
The programme was compered by Diana D’Lima, assistant lecturer, Milagres College of Nursing, who coordinated the proceedings smoothly and effectively.
The vote of thanks was proposed by Jyothi Cutinha, vice principal and organizing secretary, who expressed sincere gratitude to the chief guest, dignitaries, FAME Academy team, resource persons, management, faculty members, organizing team, and all the participants for their valuable contribution and support.
