Mangaluru, Sep 14: The representatives’ meet of Amcho Sandesh, the Konkani monthly newspaper published by Catholic Sabha, was held at the Senecle Hall of Milagres Church.
The programme was inaugurated by the spiritual director of Catholic Sabha Mangaluru Pradesh, Fr Michael Ivan Rodrigues. The principal of Milagres College, Dr Alwyn Serrao, graced the occasion as the chief guest. The central president of Catholic Sabha Mangaluru Pradesh, Santhosh D’Souza, presided over the programme.
"Amcho Sandesh is the voice of our community and our heritage. Through the dedicated service of its representatives, the newspaper continues to progress and achieve excellence. This is a matter of great joy and pride. The valuable contribution of those who work along with the newspaper deserves appreciation and recognition. Hence, this representatives’ meet holds great significance," said Fr Michael Ivan Rodrigues.
He further stated that the increasing influence of the internet and artificial intelligence has become a challenge to society. Electronic media should not be considered a complete replacement for print media. Writers must read extensively, think deeply, analyse carefully, and write for the welfare of society. Such meaningful journalism can be witnessed in Amcho Sandesh, and he expressed hope that the newspaper would continue its valuable service in the future.
Addressing the gathering, chief guest Dr Alwyn Serrao said that Amcho Sandesh has earned a significant place in the field of journalism. He advised the Magazine to continue promoting honest, impartial, and responsible journalism while maintaining high standards in reporting.
Appreciating the efforts of the representatives, he said that Amcho Sandesh has achieved the distinction of being one of the most widely circulated Konkani magazines due to the dedicated service and commitment of its representatives. He added that organising such gatherings provides an opportunity for representatives to interact, exchange ideas, and gain valuable insights for the future growth of the publication.
He also expressed concern over the declining readership of periodicals today. Due to financial challenges, many publications have been forced to discontinue, while some have reduced their number of pages. However, Amcho Sandesh, with the continuous support of its representatives and Catholic Sabha workers, continues to maintain the No. 1 position in Konkani journalism. This achievement is the result of the sincere efforts and dedication of its representatives, he said.
Editor Wilfred Lobo Padil presented an overview of the present progress of Amcho Sandesh and shared details about its sponsorship initiatives. Representatives actively participated in the discussion and offered valuable suggestions for the further development of the newspaper.
