Mumbai, Sep 15: Noise pollution levels during the Ganeshotsav celebrations will be monitored at 132 observation centres across 27 cities in Maharashtra, with monitoring scheduled on September 15, 19, 20 and 25.

The monitoring will be carried out for six hours each day, from 6 pm to midnight, to assess noise levels during the festival.

Meanwhile, the municipal corporation has taken steps to promote an environment-friendly Ganeshotsav by processing the nirmalya (floral and other religious offerings) generated during the celebrations and converting it into compost.

Last year, around 900 tonnes of nirmalya was collected and processed, producing approximately 90 tonnes of compost. This year, the civic body has made arrangements to place 328 nirmalya kalash at different locations across the city for collection of the offerings.

The initiative aims to ensure scientific processing of festival waste while encouraging citizens to celebrate Ganeshotsav in an environmentally responsible manner.
