Udupi, Sep 16: Welcoming the State Cabinet meeting scheduled to be held in Mangaluru on September 18, Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna has urged chief minister D K Shivakumar to take necessary decisions on key development demands of Udupi district during the meeting.

In a memorandum submitted to the chief minister, Suvarna sought a decision to provide the required funds, medical equipment and sanction of adequate staff for the completion and full-scale functioning of the Udupi district hospital, and urged the government to make the hospital available for public service at the earliest.

The MLA also placed several other demands concerning Udupi district, including establishment of an agricultural degree college, sanctioning of a government medical college and establishment of a government engineering college.

He sought financial assistance for the management of the Mother and Child Hospital, measures to promote the fisheries sector, and a permanent solution to coastal erosion in various parts of the district. He also sought increased grants for schools, financial assistance for natural calamities and drought relief, and measures to promote tourism in Udupi district.

Suvarna further urged the government to encourage sports activities by constructing well-equipped stadiums, provide individual compensation to houses damaged due to heavy rains, and fill vacant posts of officers and staff in government departments to ensure timely delivery of public services.

Other demands include adequate government bus services for school and college students, increased grants to various corporations and boards, finalisation of the Udupi Urban Development Authority’s master plan, and measures for the development of the proposed Sri Krishna Corridor.

Describing the Cabinet meeting in coastal Karnataka as a significant occasion, Suvarna urged the chief minister to consider the demands of the people of Udupi district and take appropriate decisions during the Mangaluru meeting.
