Bantwal, Sep 17: Thieves broke into a locked house in Sajipa Munnur village of Bantwal taluk and made away with gold ornaments worth Rs 40,000 and cash. The incident took place at the residence of Prafulla Janet D'Cruz.

According to the complaint, Prafulla had travelled to Bellare with her children on the evening of September 14. When she returned on the morning of September 15, she noticed that the bed in her bedroom had been moved. Upon closer inspection, she found the wardrobe open with clothes scattered all over, confirming the burglary.

The thieves stole two pairs of gold earrings weighing about 4 grams, estimated to be worth Rs 40,000, from the wardrobe. Additionally, Rs 5,000 in cash kept in a box near the sofa was also stolen. The miscreants had also opened another wardrobe in the house and scattered the clothes while searching for valuables.

It is suspected that the thieves gained entry by breaking the lock of the iron door in the rear work area and then forcing open the wooden back door of the house. A case has been registered at the Bantwal town police station, and further investigations are underway.
