Mangaluru, Sep 17: The AIMIT Wellness Centre of St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), AIMIT Centre, inaugurated Halli Habba 2026 on September 16 at the AIMIT Amphitheatre, celebrating the richness of rural culture, traditions, sports, art and community life.

The programme began with a ceremonial procession escorting the dignitaries to the dais, followed by a Bharatanatyam performance that served as a traditional welcome and prayer. The inauguration continued with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. In a unique symbolic gesture, the traditional Mangalorean rice noodle Seme da Adde was pressed and extruded, followed by the hoisting of the AIMIT flag, formally marking the inauguration of Halli Habba 2026.

Chief Guest RJ Abhishek Shetty, senior programme coordinator – Radio Sarang and founder of Rewind Kudla, highlighted the richness of rural life and culture, emphasising the importance of preserving and continuing indigenous traditions, knowledge, medicine, sports, art and customs.

Guest of honour Dr Rohan S Monis, chief administrative medical officer, Kanachur Hospital and Research Centre, Mangaluru, spoke about the role of culture in shaping lives and encouraged students to remain connected to their roots while exploring how modern technology can be integrated with rural knowledge to create meaningful solutions.

The programme was presided over by Dr Fr Kiran Cotha SJ, director, AIMIT, who encouraged students to actively participate in the celebrations. Harshitha Gatty, president, AWC, delivered the welcome address, while Ann Mariya, secretary, AWC, proposed the vote of thanks. Prizes were also distributed to winners of various events.

The celebrations feature house-wise competitions, traditional games, cultural activities, sports and team-based challenges, continuing from September 16 to 23. Halli Habba 2026 seeks to bring the village into the campus, celebrating tradition, fostering unity and inspiring students through rural wisdom.
