Mangaluru, Sep 17: The Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring Centre (AMC) of Justice K S Hegde Charitable Hospital (JKSHCH), Department of Pharmacology of K S Hegde Medical Academy and N G S M Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (NGSMIPS), Nitte (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru inaugurated the 6th National Pharmacovigilance Week 2026 on Thursday,  September 17, at the Glass House, Justice K S Hegde Charitable Hospital, Deralakatte, Mangaluru.

The week-long observance, being held from September 17–23 is centred on the theme “Promoting Rational Use of Medicines Through Pharmacovigilance: A Step Towards Safer Healthcare.”

The inaugural programme was presided over by Prof (Dr) B Sandeep Rai, dean, KSHEMA. Prof (Dr) Satheesh Rao, Department of Psychiatry, JKSHCH, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Prof (Dr) C S Shastry, director (Research & Strategic Initiatives), NGSMIPS, was the guest of honour.

The programme highlighted the importance of pharmacovigilance, rational use of medicines, early detection and reporting of adverse drug reactions, and strengthening medication safety practices among healthcare professionals and students.

The programme was coordinated by Prof (Dr) Sumalatha R Shetty, medical superintendent, JKSHCH, Prof (Dr) Ravichandra V, HoD, Department of Pharmacology, KSHEMA and Dr Uday Venkat Mateti, associate professor, NGSMIPS.
