Hyderabad, Sep 17: A Hyderabad family is seeking assistance from the Indian government to bring home the remains of their 28-year-old son, Mohammed Jaber Hussain, who died in the United States barely over two weeks after his wedding.

Hussain, who had been living and working in Massachusetts, was found dead in his room in Lowell, according to his family. The cause of his death has not yet been established, and his relatives are awaiting postmortem and medical reports for clarity on the circumstances.

The family, which said it belongs to an economically weaker background, has appealed for government assistance to meet the expenses and complete the official formalities required to repatriate Hussain’s remains to Hyderabad.

His father, Mohammed Zakir Hussain, wrote to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar seeking assistance in coordinating with the Indian mission in the United States and local authorities to complete the necessary procedures.

Amjed Ullah Khan, spokesperson for the Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT), shared the letter on X and urged the government to intervene on humanitarian grounds.

“At this hour of unimaginable grief, the family needs the support of the Government of India,” Khan said in his post.

According to his father, Hussain had travelled to Texas for his wedding on August 28 and later returned to Massachusetts, where he was based for work. It has not been established whether his wife accompanied him back to Massachusetts.

The family said Hussain spoke to them for the last time on September 14. Around eight hours later, his roommate informed them that Hussain had died while asleep.

With the circumstances surrounding his death still unclear, the family is waiting for the postmortem and medical reports, which are expected to establish the cause of death and provide further details.

Hussain had moved to the United States in 2021 to pursue higher studies in civil engineering. He completed his master’s degree from the University of New Haven in Connecticut in 2023.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Hussain began his professional career as an intern with Estimator after completing his studies. He later worked for more than three years with Green International Affiliates Inc. In June this year, he joined Lochner, an engineering company based in Massachusetts.

The family is now looking to the Indian government for assistance in navigating the required procedures and arranging the transportation of Hussain’s remains from the United States to Hyderabad.
