Mangaluru/Udupi, Sep 18: Several parts of Dakshina Kannada district received rain on Thursday, while other areas experienced sunny and cloudy weather. Rain is likely on September 20 and 21, and a yellow alert has been issued.

According to the weather department forecast, partly cloudy conditions are expected to continue across the coastal districts. Light rain may occur in isolated places on Friday morning. Similar weather conditions are likely to prevail over the next two to three days. As the low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is expected to form a day or two later than anticipated, moderate rain is likely in the coastal districts after September 20.

A low-pressure area extending from the southern Bay of Bengal towards Tamil Nadu and South Karnataka continues to persist. Due to this system, South Karnataka is receiving rain. Around September 20 and 21, a low-pressure area is expected to form near Myanmar and move towards Odisha. The coastal districts may receive good rainfall only if western clouds move in.

Several parts of Sullia taluk received good rainfall on Thursday. Heavy rain lashed Subrahmanya in the evening. Good rainfall was reported in Aranthodu, Nekrakaje, Mallar, Kalmadka, Markanja Mapalathota and Harihara Pallathadka.

Rain was reported in several parts of Udupi district on Thursday morning. Good rainfall was recorded in Manipal, Parkala, Atraadi, Hiriyadka and other areas during the morning.

Moderate rain was reported in some parts of Udupi, Kundapur, Byndoor, Brahmavar, Kaup, Hebri and Karkala taluks. Udupi recorded 3 cm of rainfall on Thursday, the highest in the state.
