Mangaluru, Sep 18: Measures are being taken to reduce mobile network disruptions in areas surrounding the Mangaluru District Jail, Home minister Priyank Kharge said.

He said necessary adjustments would be made to the design and capacity of antennas without compromising the security functions of the mobile signal jammers installed at the jail.

Kharge said the government had received complaints from the public about disruptions to mobile network services in areas around the district prison. It was observed that the signal jammers installed within the prison premises were also affecting mobile connectivity in the surrounding areas.

To address the issue, technical measures are being implemented to ensure that the jammers continue to effectively serve their intended security purpose inside the prison while minimising unnecessary disruption to mobile services in neighbouring areas.

The department is coordinating with telecom service providers to make the required technical adjustments and reduce the impact of the jammers on mobile network services.

“While prison security is of utmost importance, it is equally necessary to ensure that residents and other users in the surrounding areas do not face unnecessary disruption to mobile connectivity. Technical solutions are being implemented to strike a balance between these two requirements,” the minister said.

He added that necessary adjustments had already been made based on a joint technical survey. Further measures will be undertaken in coordination with telecom service providers to minimise the inconvenience faced by the public.
