Udupi, Sep 18: Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management (SMVITM), Bantakal, celebrated the 59th Engineers’ Day commemorating the 165th birth anniversary of the eminent engineer and statesman Sir M Visvesvaraya, on September 16. The celebration was organized with the objective of recognizing the contributions of engineers to society and inspiring students to pursue excellence, innovation, and professional responsibility.
The programme was graced by Dr P Subbanna Bhat, former professor, department of electronics and communication engineering, NITK Surathkal, as the chief guest. The chief guest, Dr P Subbanna Bhat, addressed the gathering and shared valuable insights with the students. He emphasized the importance of engineering knowledge, innovation, ethical responsibility, and the role of engineers in addressing the challenges faced by society. His address served as an inspiration for the students to continuously learn, innovate, and contribute meaningfully to technological development. Also, he delivered a special lecture on “Scientific Heritage of Bharath” for all the faculty, staff and students.


H V Gowthama, in his presidential remarks, highlighted the significance of Engineers’ Day and the legacy of Sir M Visvesvaraya. He encouraged students to make effective use of their engineering education and develop themselves into responsible professionals capable of contributing to the development of the nation.
As part of the Engineers’ Day celebration, an installation ceremony of the IEEE student branch office bearers was also conducted. The newly appointed IEEE Student Branch office bearers were formally inducted, marking the beginning of their tenure and reaffirming the institute's commitment to promoting professional development, technical activities, innovation, leadership, and community engagement among students.
