Jabalpur, Sep 18: Madhya Pradesh chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced on Friday that his government is actively integrating the history and sacrifices of tribal icons into school textbooks and promoting cinematic and institutional initiatives to honor their legacy.

Speaking at a commemorative event in Jabalpur marking the martyrdom day of tribal heroes Raja Shankar Shah and his son Kunwar Raghunath Shah, CM Yadav emphasized that preserving the tribal community's glorious heritage and educating younger generations about their role in the freedom struggle is a core responsibility of the state.

Recalling the historical significance of the father-son duo—descendants of Rani Durgavati—Yadav noted that they fiercely resisted British rule through their writings and poetry, inspiring the populace before being captured and executed by being tied to cannons in Jabalpur in 1857. Episodes highlighting figures such as Raja Bhabhut Singh, Raja Shankar Shah, and Kunwar Raghunath Shah have now been officially incorporated into the state's educational curriculum.

The Chief Minister also highlighted broader state initiatives, including encouraging films based on tribal leaders and establishing major educational institutions named after them, such as a university in Khargone named after Tantya Bhil and another in Sagar dedicated to Rani Avanti Bai Lodhi.

During the visit, CM Yadav additionally launched the 'Namo Prerana' program to spread awareness about cancer prevention and de-addiction among students, and visited a blood donation camp organized under the 'Seva Sankalp Abhiyan-2026' at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Cultural and Information Centre.
